The motto of the conference was formulated by the event partners and the participating institutions and is intended to reflect the thematic focus, which is described in detail in the Call For Papers.
As with all IPR conferences, contributions from all areas of research on underwater archaeology and underwater cultural heritage are also welcome. Due to current events, we have included two additional topics in the Call for Papers:
Maritime Spatial Planning
The protection of cultural artefacts begins long before work on the object begins. As the maritime and submarine areas are now equally the target of planning processes, this is where archaeological heritage protection comes in. But how can the organisation's own technical objectives be prepared in such a way that they are given sufficient technical consideration within planning processes? One aspect is the planning orientation of heritage conservation, as is taken into account in the BalticRim research project, for example. In addition to land development planning (FEP), the area of strategic environmental assessment (SEA) also covers the field of environmental impact assessment (EIA) and extends to the not yet established cultural heritage impact assessment (HIA).
Divers as liaison officers
for movable and immovable cultural monuments or volunteer archaeological monument conservators. Volunteering has always played a fundamental role in archaeological monument conservation. In Schleswig-Holstein, for example, officially appointed liaison officers for cultural monuments monitor and inspect around 90% of the monument stock. In the meantime, the ALSH is working on the authorisation of divers as experts. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a lively community of divers is involved in the various waters as volunteer monument conservators. With their commitment, they contribute to the protection and recording of archaeological monuments.
